for Players The
Tournament:
The Porter Cup is an invitational amateur event conducted at
stroke play over 72 holes.
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to invite players of
national and international reputation to participate.
Contestants are selected on the basis of their competitive record
and accomplishments in major amateur and collegiate tournaments
Amateur Status: All players must conform with the USGA Rules of Amateur Status as set forth in The Rules of Golf. Registration: Player must register by 12:00PM on Tuesday, July 22nd. The Registration Desk is located in the Garden Room of the Niagara Falls Country Club and will be staffed on Sunday, July 20th from 5:00PM until 8:00PM, on Monday, July 21st from 12:00PM until 8:00PM, and on Tuesday, July 22nd from 9:00AM until 12:00PM. If you cannot register at any of the above times, you must contact the Player Registration Committee or you may forfeit your position in the Tournament. Dress Code: Shorts will not be allowed beginning with the first round of the Championship (Wednesday). Shorts are permissible for the Ham Am and other practice time on the course. Proper collared shirts are required during all phases of the Tournament including the Ham Am and all practice. The Niagara Falls Country Club has a policy of no denim at any time. Golf Balls; Driver Heads: Only brands of golf balls on the most current USGA List of Conforming Golf Balls and driver heads on the most current USGA List of Conforming Driver Heads may be used. So-called "One-Ball Rule" will be in effect. Distance Measuring Devices: It is a condition of the competition that rangefinders or other distance measuring devices are prohibited. Penalty for breach of this condition is Disqualification. Starting Times: AM or PM for the Ham Am will be available at Registration. Wednesday and Thursdays’ pairing and starting times will be available by noon on Tuesday, July 22nd. Friday and Saturdays’ times will be available by 7:00PM the night before. Ham Am: The Ham Am is our player/sponsor event. You are highly encouraged to participate. There are morning and afternoon shotgun starts. The usual format is two Porter Cup players playing Best Ball, and either three or four Tournament Sponsors playing a Scramble. The combined total low score wins. Champion's Dinner:
The Champion's Dinner will be held on Tuesday Accommodations: For those contestants wishing to make their own accomodations, the following hotels, motels, and bed & breakfast facilities can be found here: Travel Information: The Committee will need to know if you will have a car available during tournament week. Also, the Committee will provide transportation to and from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. You must provide us with your airline, flight number, time and day of arrival and departure. Please keep in mind that in the event of inclement weather, we will conclude the tournament on Sunday. (For more information, see Contact Us- Transportation) Awards: Prizes will be awarded for the top 10 positions in the Porter Cup. The William J. McMahon Award is for the low Mid-Amateur. In addition, there are low round prizes each day. Meals: The following meals are included with your entry fee: Breakfast and lunch each day Tuesday through Saturday; Tuesday evening Champion's Dinner & the Ham/Am BBQ on Wednesday. Please check with the Registration Committee if you wish to attend the Dinner Dance (not included in player entry fee). Close of Competition: The competition is deemed to be closed when the Championship trophy has been presented. Withdrawal: If an entrant withdraws prior to July 11th, their full entry fee will be refunded. If an entrant withdraws after July 11th, there will be no refund.
